Anesthesiology

Anesthesiology is the practice of medicine dedicated to relieving pain for surgical patients before, during and after a procedure. Anesthesiologists provide anesthetics (drugs) to block pain so that patients can undergo surgical procedures with no discomfort. Anesthesiologists also monitor patients in the recovery room as they are emerging from the anesthesia, and they can also help with pain management postoperatively.
